SmartTransyt began its journey analyzing the Ghanaian mass transportation (trotro) market in order to see how to improve it.

The problems were obvious, but it seemed no one was willing to invest the time and energy to solve them. The most common mode of transportation in West Africa was also the most neglected. A challenge SmartTransyt’s founders – born Ghanaians – decided to take on themselves.

The challenge had to be solved holistically, considering the cultural persona of the passengers while still charging a fare that is acceptable for the average Ghanaian.

After careful analysis and a methodical multi-year research process, we realized there was a lot we could do to solve the entire experience of Ghanaian trotros – and in fact for the whole of West Africa.
